Road trips mean one thing: road trip music. The selection is very important. If you’re heading out west you want to hear the tumbleweeds. If you’re going to New York for some reason the tumbleweeds would sound a bit out of place.
I remember seeing the first sight of Nashville’s skyline and all of a sudden like magic Bob Dylan started to sing. I confess, I had been planning to pop that CD in but it was the perfect road trip music moment. All the excitement of Nashville came alive.
We’re planning on heading out to Savannah and I’m thinking Johnny Mercer. You have to set that Georgia mood. A little Ray Charles. Some sleepy sounds. Smooth southern sounds. Of course I can always slip in some Neil Young. For some reason he is appropriate for any setting. And the Beatles too. They love road trips and they haven’t been to Savannah yet.
